Mar Emmanuel Delly Elected as the New Chaldean Patriarch

 

 

December 3, 2003 Rome - The meeting of the Chaldean bishops held in Vatican December 2 and 3, 2003 ended up with the election of Mar Emmanuel Delly as the new Chaldean Patriarch. The meeting was attended by all the 22 Chaldean bishops representing Chaldean parishes around the world. This meeting follows a previous one in Baghdad last September in which no bishop succeeded in getting the majority of votes.

Patriarch Delly was born in TelKeppe (Telkayef) in northern Iraq in 1927 and became a priest in 1952 and then bishop in 1962. He has a doctoral degree in liturgy.
